We are regularly involved in supporting local causes and here Rachel describes an appeal she worked on last year.

Last year I met with with John Darvall to support him as he challenged his fear of falling and prepared himself for a tandem sky dive.

First, I spent time with him understanding where this fear stems from and why a single event can develop into an all encompassing fear. I helped him to understand why his brain is responding with fear in other situations and why he now felt he has a fear of heights as well as falling.

You can listen in to the broadcast where he talks about what he has learned here.

Two sessions in, we do a 'rewind' of the event that caused him to feel fear. We do this safely, in trance and the client is always in control of what they 'see' in this rewind. It can be a very effective way of getting rid of fears in a safe, controlled way.

After a couple of sessions with me, John is able to try riding the Sky View ferris wheel on the beachfront at Weston-super-Mare. You can listen in to hear how it went here

The next session involved a trip to the Buzz Sky Dive centre to scope out where the sky dive may take place. Here is was able to meet with the instructors, see what the parachute kit looks like and to be able to develop a good idea of everything that will happen.

This is an important part of the process of dealing with a fear or phobia as it allows you to know as much as possible about the context of the fear and to deal with it in a non-emotional, practical way.

Typically in clinic we do this in the room with me presenting a full sensory description of the thing it is you would like to be able to do whilst you are in trance. It is a very effective way of dealing with fears
